The Program Director at NJP will lead the organization’s base-building and member-led direct-action programs by developing effective organizing strategies, supervising staff, and cultivating member leadership. This role involves designing and executing campaigns, expanding NJP’s membership through outreach and education, and mobilizing members to take collective action on social and carceral justice issues. The Program Director will also collaborate with partners, support coalition work, and align organizing efforts with NJP’s legal and policy goals.
Ideal candidates will bring at least five years of organizing experience, one year of program management, and a strong commitment to social, racial, and economic justice. Key skills include team leadership, strategic planning, relationship-building across diverse communities, and a solutions-oriented approach. The role requires flexibility, initiative, and the ability to inspire and move a team toward a shared vision for transformative change.

Project Program Director
Outreach Team Canvasser
The Canvasser will support NJP’s base-building and direct-action efforts by engaging directly with community members through outreach, recruitment, and mobilization. This contract role focuses on connecting with individuals through events, clinics, and educational initiatives, encouraging them to join NJP and take part in campaigns that advocate for social and carceral justice. Canvassers will also help disseminate information about public policy, mobilize participation in actions, and collaborate closely with staff and volunteers to support outreach goals.
Ideal candidates are strong communicators who enjoy meeting new people and building relationships across diverse communities. Experience in outreach or organizing is preferred, along with a commitment to social, racial, and economic justice. Canvassers should be adaptable, solutions-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. This role requires flexibility, including the ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.
